The Wild Atlantic Way

This time we are shaking up the travel experience and actually doing something we dreamed about when we were young- sharing our love of travel with a grandchild  ( and her parents). While we have been to Ireland several times and with several people, it is all new with a little one.

Nora…Our youngest travel companion loving Irish B&B life

With our mid-sized rental car loaded to the max with some very cool travel gear for little ones and modest suitcases for the adults we forged ahead.

We did explore Doolin for the first time. It is a beautiful little town not far from the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher. while it was a rainy start to the experience, we were determined to find a rainbow.

Sunset Cruise to the base of the Cliffs of Moher

We joked that the sunset cruise to the Cliffs of Moher would be a sideways rain event in the late afternoon, but in true Irish fashion, as we neared the vantage point of the Cliffs, the clouds parted as rays of sunlight pierced through.

The Irish weather doesn’t stop us!

We were treated to some spectacular colors in the sky against the velvety greens and deep browns and blacks of  the cliffs.

As our fellow passengers oohed and  ahhhed at the majesty of the land, two dolphins breached the wake of the boat and swam alongside us for the return to the port.

After a windy night and a rainy start to the morning, we returned to the cliffs the next day to look down to our cruise path from above. The sky cleared once again, and the light crowd provided great access to the views.

Once back in Doolin, the par 3 golf course, with lush fairways along the rugged coast was calling. Sure enough, a trip of firsts, we could not resist.

So we spent a glorious afternoon, walking a beautiful course, listening to the crashing surf, the chatting with the very friendly cows who grazed the hills just next the course.

Golfing in Ireland… is a must do!
