The City of Light(s) … at Christmas, it must be London

Make no  mistake, London is a electric, eclectic, romantic, pedantic, dramatic, emphatic, political, inexplicable. It is the melting pot that hasn’t melted. There is a flavor of the individuals who emigrated there, willingly or otherwise and continue to leave their mark in flavors and customs and neighborhoods. Culture, history, theatre, music, art, character, food provide something for everyone.

Walk anywhere for seminal London sites. Any TikTok-er worth their salt is posing by the iconic red phone booths that still dot parks and sidewalks throughout the city. The red double decker buses criss cross busy streets.

Trafalgar Square framed with the National Gallery, St. Martin-in-the-field church, Lord Nelson, guarded by the massive lions, looks over the fountain, and the tourists and protesters, and merrymakers.

The London Eye, the Ferris-wheel styled observatory can be seen for miles both night and day. Hyde Park, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, the West End… if you stayed for a month you could not run out of sites to see or things to do.

At Christmas, the vibrant city is lighted like no other. An informal lighted walking tour winding through streets with storefronts lushly decorated windows, pop up ice skating rinks in regal courtyard settings or parks, market stalls, mulled wine, and pubs with yards of fresh garland and Christmas trees everywhere.

It is a picture postcard of Yuletide cheer – lookout for the peddle party bar with the raucous charollers belting Last Christmas whether they know the words or not! They definite brought the spirit!
