So what do you do when you decide it is time to leave behind a life you have grown accustom to… a life that defined you.. and open your life to a new space, a new way of being… Are you tired… or retired.. or just ready to spread your wings…
So.. say goodbye to hollywood and say hello to the world… ready or not.. here we come. The larger plan is not to “tire again” but to “invent again” . We want to embrace the day. Trip the light fantastic… take a bite out of..okay.. I am losing focus.
Our plan is to live in the places we have dreamed of and those we never thought possible. We want to immerse ourselves in the local culture and get to know the people who live next door, who own coffee shop, who walk the loop in the evening, and own the wine and cheese shop.. ( it’s not like we are going to become someone we are not!).

Today was either the last day of work… or the last day of school… Tomorrow is a new beginning. There are adventures to be lived. Take a peak and see what is next!
We flirt with travel over the summer, then dive in with wild abandon. So we hope you will join our NYC, Berkshires, and RI tours in the summer while we prep for a life in Italy… vivendo il sogno…
First day of retirement..
Rise early… time is now really our own.. so waste nothing… feet hit the floor before 6am.. and we are off.

We are headed to Manchester VT. If you have never been put it on your list…waste no time it is spectacular!
As I recap the day we are sitting on the porch of the taconic hotel… (travel tip .., wonderful Klimpton resort… hotels tonight.com best site ever!) we were treated to a double rainbow..

of course we may have risked life and limb as the very clear crack of lightening and the percussive thunder rocked us as we walked the marble( oh yeah. I do mean marble)sidewalks back to the hotel with our take out pizza … ( champagne wishes caviar dreams… require take out pizza.. and Costco wine☺️.) we are now on a fixed income…Today we ventured on to a place yet undiscovered… we took the road less traveled( literally… it was dug up to dirt and gravel.. we sat for 20 min at a stretch as the crew signaled us to wait for on coming traffic.. )
We arrived mid day to Manchester VT… our new favorite spot in NE..

The hotel has bikes you can take to ride the town ..( we may be among the bold and brave as the valet signed us in…

NO HELMET FOR US. feeling invincible).
We rode the Main Street to the quaint and charming shoppes ( quaint and charming requires the”shoppes” not “shops” … we visited Orvis .. great store born here in Manchester. We were outliers… among the only shoppers without a dog..
Well it would not be NE tour without a stop at a Craft beer .. ( come on people… we maybe retired but we are not old..). The Crooked Ram delights! Our host was charming introducing us to the options on tap

which then moved to a delicious charcuterie of local cheese, wonderful meats and a farm sourced bread( that led us on to a detour to find..yum) We had a great IPA, a great garlic infused honey( to die for!!) etc.
While searching for the farm sourced bread we stumbled upon the initial reason we can here… Hildene, the ancestral home of Robert Lincoln … only child of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln who lived to adulthood ( okay so we are kinda history geeks). Robert was the president and CEO of Pullman cars.. as in trains. Well the gardens are beautiful.. peonies are my favorite and they have a yard full…

The house is nearly as authentic as can be. Family lived there through 1975… (okay not as long ago as you would think).
Back to the hotel for a swim complimentary drink on the porch.

Then on to our rainbow evening… I was a little skeptical about this retirement thing but so far so good. “There’s a reasonable chance tomorrow will be better!”

Welcome to retirement! You’re gonna love it. We had a great time in VT as well last week. Enjoy! 😀👍Steve

So happy for you. Our favorite spot (and will be there in about a week) is just down the road in Arlington, Vermont. Two weeks in our new RV camped on the Battenkill River. The Perfect place to go on your first official retirement trip is Vermont! Enjoy and I look forward to reading about your adventures. I can’t wait myself!
